Friend and fellow paddler Ellen Debondt lost her life Sunday in a head on collision with a drunk driver on the Olympic Peninsula in Port Angeles, WA. A little over a year ago, Ellen and her husband Ken moved from Seattle to a house perched on a cliff above the amazing surf break Crescent Beach and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The couple were known for being organizers of the La Push Pummel since the late 90's, and were very active in mtn biking, hiking, sea kayaking, whitewater, surf kayaking, and more recently SUP. Ken, an artist, shaped Ellen's first SUP and shapes his own wave skis (as well as for friends too). Ellen's background as nurse had her helping folks in need with cancer and in both PA and Seattle. The woman who hit Ellen was a repeat offender with prior alcohol related incidents adding to this senseless loss.
An account has been set up at Sound Community Bank for Ken DeBondt, contributions can be made in Ken's name, account 10544240.
